12 May 2010,
My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights and we LOVED it! we took a bungalow situated on a hill. we arrived in the evening, so we couldn't see what our view was. when we woke up the next morning, we were so surprised to wake up to this amazing sight!!! there was nothing but the sea and the sun! Very pretty! A bonus i didn't consider till we saw it!
our bungalow had a decent sized balcony with a sun lounger where we could sit and admire the view. The bathroom was very clean and nicely decorated - minimal but still nice. The room, itself, was very clean and spacious with a TV, fridge and a small table and two chairs. we liked it instantly! They had lockers/safes in the offices, where you could place your own lock if you wanted. They cleaned our room every day without fail ,without us asking, and very thoroughly too.
The manager - was very polite and helpful. The rest of the staff were also very pleasant and welcoming.
The breakfast served here is also decent, not too greasy or bland. The food on the menu is ok - nothing great, but their pizza's were quite good! The room service is a bit slow, but that didn't matter! At least they turned up with a massive smile!
The pool is a bit small but I loved it because you could just gaze at that fantastic view from the infinity edge - very relaxing! The beach had a bit of construction work happening there, but we couldn't hear anything, despite being in the bungalows which are closer to the beach area. Yes, the beach wasn't ready while we were there, but we didn't want to spend the entire day at our hotel anyway. And you want to head into Haad Rin and spend sunbath there, because there is more going on there.
Blue hill is about 10mins walk away from Haad Rin, which isn't so bad! we used to walk there and stop at the 7-11 and grab a beer or two, walk for a few more minutes and grab some BBQ'd chicken from this small stall (no,we didn't get sick), finish our beers, and walk the remaining 5mins into Haad Rin. It was quite a nice walk. We even walked back late at night too - completely safe! Or if you want to be lazy, the hotel will drive you there for 50 bahts, or you can catch a taxi for a 100 bahts. An even better walk into Haad Rin is on the beach. The beach leads directly there and its a very scenic walk, especially at sunset (quite postcard picture!). There are a lot of cute dogs along the way on the beach too, and you get to see the local fishermen/women at sunset wading around in the sea.
They (the locals fishermen/women) come to the beaches early in the morning and catch crabs to use for bait. In the late afternoon, they tie the crabs to bamboo and wade around the shallow surf waiting for squid to bite. It was interesting too see, and they are quite friendly and even took us with them to see how they do it.
But don't forget, there's a reason this hotel is called "blue HILL"! it is on a HILL, so yes there are steps up and down from pool to reception/rooms/beach, but it didn't bother us, and besides these guys are installing a lift for the lazy people :)
I would say this is a great little place that is very friendly! its far enough away from the loudness and madness of Haad Rin, but close enough that you wont feel isolated.
